How to Clean an Oil Painting

Oil paintings are a unique and sensitive media. They can collect dirt and stains over time, though, and you might be at a loss on how to clean them — you can't use water, paint thinner, alcohol, or any abrasive force. Fear not, though! Here's how to bring out the original vibrancy of your oil painting.

Steps:

  1. Buy several cotton swabs. Using your spit to clean a work of art might seem both crazy and profane, but it's a method museum curators around the world use. Saliva has enough enzymes to break down dirt and grime, but not so much that it will damage the paint. It'll take a lot of cotton swabs, though, so stock up with a full box.
    • Be aware that this method takes some patience — ask a museum intern how many hours it can take to clean a large painting this way. (Hint: It's more than 2.) But if you want to meticulously clean your painting with almost zero risk of damage to the oils, this is the way to go.
  2. Lightly wet the swab with your spit. You don't want the cotton soaking wet, but it should be wet enough to pick up any dirt particles with ease.
  3. Gently dab the wet cotton over the painting. Don't move the cotton from side to side, but instead up and down in small, soft dotting motions. Aim to work around a square inch at a time.
  4. Wet the other end of the swab. Once the first end has picked up so much dirt that it's no longer useful, move on to the other end. When that one is dirty, discard the swab and move on to the next.
  5. Keep a glass of water handy. You should be working slowly enough that you don't feel like you're running out of saliva. Just in case your mouth does start to get dry, though, take a sip of water and wait a minute or two before going back for more spit.

How to Be a Sign Spotter

A sign spotter is someone who finds wild signs and takes pictures of them. While it may seem like a joke, to some people this is actually how they make a living. Being a sign spotter isn't hard, it just requires good eye sight.

Steps:

  1. Look for anything that may seem out of the ordinary. A missing letter, a weird combination of words, etc. Most of the time they don't turn out to be anything, so don't get disappointed.
  2. These can be found mostly in foreign countries. Since most foreign countries don't usually speak English, the English on the signs may be a little scrambled. This makes for a funny sign.
  3. Look for misspelled words. Sometimes, a misspelled word is spelled as something else, changing the message of the sign.
  4. Look for words that don't belong. Like before, English in some foreign countries may not be the best.
  5. Try and find words that when put together are disgusting. These make for a good sign.

How to Make a Tricky Code

Ever make "The Best Secret Code" and then someone figures it out? Don't you hate when that happens? with this nifty code, no one will ever know what your sending again!

Steps:

  1. Write the message you want to be turned into code (i.e. "watch out"). Make sure to remove any capitols or punctuation.
  2. Divide the message into groups of two letters (watch out). If your last group has only one letter, leave it be. The code will still work.
  3. Reverse each letter in each pair (aw ct oh tu).
  4. Add "ay" to the end of each pair (i.e. away ctay ohay tuay).
  5. Run all the "Groups" together (awayctayohaytuay).
  6. Add "b" to each end of the new "word" (bawayctayohaytuayb)
  7. Send the message.

How to Decipher a Secret Code

Did you come across a note in class that doesn't make any sense? It just might be a secret code! This article will teach you how to decipher secret codes which consists of sequences of numbers, letters or both combined.

Steps:
  1. Determine what kind of code you have found. The type of code that can be deciphered with this method are simple replacements of a letter. For example: Every number 7 would be replaced with the letter B. If it doesn't look like a jumble of letters or a sequence of numbers, then you probably won't be able to crack it with this method.

  2. Determine if the sequence of letters has been shuffled. If it hasn't been, then your job is immensely simplified. For letters, just shift every letter a space to the previous letter's spot. For example: The word "ABC," is decoded "Z.A.B." If this doesn't work, then shift the letters again and again, until you are back at the original message. If the message is a sequence of numbers, then start assigning numbers to letters, starting from "A: 1" all the way up to "Z: 26." Plug the letters in wherever their respective numbers are. If this doesn't work, then increase the numbers of all the letters by one (and making number 26 the new number 1). Plug in the letters again, and repeat the shifting until A is 1 again.
  3. Look for anomalies in the message, such as single numbers or letters. These will most likely be the letters "A" or "I." The character repeated the most will often be "E." Watch for double letters, and take them into consideration.
  4. Plug in as many letters this way as you can, then start filling in words, keeping track of which letters you are guessing at. Knowing what the note is about, or even the person who sent it, can be a great help.
  5. Try to look for vowels. In most words, vowels and consonants come approximately alternate to each other. For example:
H__
H_W
_R_
Y__
  • Most probably has a vowel between the consonants. So you can find that it's HEY HOW ARE YOU easily. Vowels appear the most in a code and especially the letter "E" needs to be checked first, as it helps reveal other parts of the code as well. For example, if you find that the letter "E" comes in a word "ARE", you will find that the same letter or number is substituted in other words such as "HE" and "BE" which helps break the code and get new substitutions.
  1. Learn about different codes. The next step is code, which is much harder. Morse, Braille, and others are just ways (mainly cyphers) old soldiers could get a message. One way is connecting numbers to letters. For instance: “ 23 9 11 9 8 15 23” spells out “Wiki How”. This is an easy code. Another one commonly used in elementary school is pig Latin, which is where you take the first letter of each word and put it at the end and add ay. However, if the word starts with a vowel, just add ay at the end.
  2. Learn other alphabets: Many languages don't write in the English alphabet neither in characters, but use lines and things like that. You will especially notice this if you read Arabic, Hindi, and other South-Asian languages.

How to Sell Your House in 3 Days

Selling property can be a very stressful thing, but it doesn’t have to be. Following these steps, you might just sell your house in about 3 days (not a guarantee)! Here are a few tips for bettering your house-selling experience.

Steps:
  1. Hire a good, successful Realtor. Remember, you will be meeting with this person often and discussing important matters so always pick someone you trust and are comfortable talking with, don’t just base your decision on the number of houses the agency has sold. When you pick a Realtor, set a time to meet to discuss finances and see your property.

  2. Meet with your Realtor for a walk-through of the house and to receive presentation tips for your showing. Based on their advice, take into consideration the work you will need to do in order to get your house into the best shape possible to be viewed.
  3. Clean up the outside of your house--your front yard especially. Put gardening tools up and out of sight, hoses away, kids toys out of the way, etc. Keep in mind, the front yard is what first attracts a buyer or their agent’s eye--if the first impression isn’t eye-catching, what will make them come inside?
  4. Avoid the dark, dreary atmosphere of dark wall colors. Paint walls white or an off-white color in order to give the sense of an open, airy house. Not only will it lighten up the house, it will make it seem larger than it is.
  5. Remove all the furniture possible in the house. You are going for the “hotel” look in that you want only the furniture necessary to be there. Take down wall hangings, posters, photos, books; take away about half the furniture in your house (if possible); make your rooms less crowded. Keep in mind, prospective buyers don’t want to see your possessions in the house, they want to see their belongings fitting in.
  6. Erase most of the evidence of inhabitants from your home for the viewing, especially pets.
  7. Clean, clean, clean! Dirty rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, can be a major turn-off for people viewing your house. Little things lying around also give the impression of a cluttered environment.
  8. Hide all trashcans--closets are a good place to temporarily store the smelly, obstructive objects.
  9. Set up your house for viewing.
    • Make sure your house doesn’t smell unpleasant and the heat is comfortable.
    • Double-check that every toilet lid is down, all the lights are on(including lamps), hide all electrical objects(like wires and remotes), turn off computers and televisions, and make sure no little objects are lying around.
    • Ensure the prospective buyers always come with an agent (if your Realtor tells you this) and make sure they know how to get into the house(your agent may leave a lock box with your key in it).
    • Hold an open house sometime to allow people in the neighborhood to see your house--word of mouth travels just as quickly as internet postings.

How to Get Your Home Ready to Sell by Owner

The first thing a potential buyer will see is the perimeter of the "For Sale By Owner" home, but the lasting impression is the substance of the home.

Steps:
  1. It is absolutely important that you check your home in order to remove the clutter before you post the "For Sale By Owner" sign on your front lawn. Clutter and dark colors have a very frequent tendency to deter buyers from purchasing the house. Essentially, one must organize all of their clutter and remove any items that have lost their value. If you cannot figure out what to do with these items, you could have a garage sale or donate them to charity organizations. If the clutter is still somewhat overwhelming, your last resort is acquiring storage space. If the floor in a room is no longer visible, you most likely still have too much clutter.
  2. Well lit rooms with lightly colored walls will seem larger than dark rooms with poor lighting. If any walls in your house are dark, it would be a good idea to contemplate painting them with a white or off-white paint or possibly increasing the number of watts in your light bulbs.
Tips:
  • If you discover any unsavory or overly stained carpets, you most likely should replace them. If your carpet doesn't require replacement, you can always choose to shampoo it. It is extremely important that you clean all windows and mirrors and search for any imperfections.
  • Wash your oven and stove extremely well. Thoroughly clean the drip pans under each burner. The grease and dirt that build up in this area must be cleaned. Polish the outside of the stove and oven until the shine is remarkable. Be sure to clean your refrigerator, dishwasher, or any other appliances.
  • Remove any dirt or build up on the window fixtures and blinds. Clear away the fingerprints that generally appear on the doorknobs and light switches. Clean the wall surrounding the trash cans, particularly in the kitchen, for this tends to be a problem area.
  • Thoroughly clean your kitchen countertops and reduce as much clutter as you possibly can. It is very important that you reduce the number of items in each cabinet throughout the house.
  • It is important that you have your clothes and any items in your closets seem organized. Your closets must not seem over crowded. Every aspect of the house must seem spacious and clear. It is best to remove any items that might clutter up your shelves or floor. Other areas that clutter tends to gather include the garage, basement, and attic space.
  • Examine each room of the house for odors. Over time you can become accustom to certain smells, in which case you should ask for the help of a neighbor. You must be certain that your for-sale-by-owner home looks, smells, and feels as fresh, clean, and new as possible.

How to Protect Your Identity

There are so many opportunities for consumers to purchase items, whether it is directly from a store or online, but with these conveniences come just as many opportunities for your identity to be stolen. For this reason it is essential that you shop in a way that does not open the door for others to steal your money and your identity. There are many ways in which you can protect your identity, and it doesn't take much extra time to implement them.

Steps:
  1. Sign up for only a few credit cards so that it is easy to monitor them, and never just destroy a card you don't plan on using again. Make sure you actually close out the account.

  2. Make sure that all online purchases are made through a reputable site that is safe and secure if you want to protect your personal finances. Such sites will post Trust-e symbol on their pages. All secure sites have URLs that begin with "[https" https"] and have a privacy policy. Additionally, you may want to reserve one particular credit card for online purchases so that you don't put more than one card at risk.
  3. Purchase a shredder and make sure that you destroy everything you want to trash that has your personal finance information on it. This includes verified bank statements, bills, receipts, and pre-approval credit offers.
  4. Make a habit of verifying your bank statements with your receipts before shredding the receipts. Staying abreast of your spending will allow you to spot and stop personal information fraud sooner than later.
  5. Obtain a credit report annually so that you can check for discrepancies. Make sure all the information is yours, and if you do find something suspicious, get it cleared up immediately.
  6. Mail all bills directly at the post office or post office box, rather than leaving it in your mailbox. Thieves have been known to check mail boxes indicating a pick-up request in search for credit and banking information such as payments and checks.
  7. Update any changes of address immediately if you move, including all the credit card companies you use. You don't want your personal information going to your old address and possibly the wrong hands.
  8. Secure your personal information by guarding your Social Security card and number, and disclosing it only when it is essential. If you are suspicious about why it is requested, don't be afraid to question it, and if you don't feel comfortable revealing certain information, don't.
  9. Never release your Social Security, credit card, or bank account numbers over the phone, unless with a bank that you have contacted. If someone calls in, get their information and then call your bank back through your usual method or phone contact in order to verify that the request was legitimate.

How to Access Secure Sites

No access to your bank account, your eBay account, or any website secured with SSL? If you can access some websites but can't get to secure sites you might have to Re-register Internet Explorer Files.

Steps:

  1. Re-register Internet Explorer Files

  2. Go to the Start Menu → Run: "%ProgramFiles%"\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe /rereg
  3. OR Start → Run → Type "regsvr32 softpub.dll" (without quotes) and wait for the OK message; then try again.
  4. You may also want to download this file from dsvs.org, it is a batch script that will register all of the .dll files in IE, a lot easier than above.
  5. Remember to delete all cookies, all damaged, unknown plugins, enable defaults on security and privacy tab, clear SSL state, put defaults in advanced tab, and disable all "manage addons" in programs tab.

How to Block Spyware

Spyware refers to software that is installed on a computer without knowledge of the user. It can be used to track and monitor computer use to send to third parties for marketing purposes. Spyware programs can be a nuisance, as they can take up computer processing capacity, collect personal information and send pop up advertisements without permission. Through key loggers or taking screen captures or scanning hard drives, spyware can maliciously take personal information for criminal gain. There are several steps you can take to block spyware from your computer.

Steps:
  1. Be careful when you download. Knowing what you are downloading and from what site is an important measure when it comes to blocking spyware. Many spyware programs are downloaded unknowingly when you download other software. You should always read the End User License Agreement as sometimes spyware programs are allowed access through third party advertisements when you click to accept the software you are downloading.

  2. Avoid peer-to-peer file sharing. This is another common way for spyware to enter your computer. Peer-to-peer file sharing is risky, as the content of the other person’s computer is unknown and viruses and spyware can be spread this way. The best way to block spyware is to prevent possibilities for it to get on your computer.
  3. Use add-ons on your Internet browser. Internet browsers such as Firefox, Opera or Internet Explorer have add-ons that block pop up ads from appearing while you surf. This is also another important measure in preventing spyware, as clicking on pop up ads can inadvertently lead to spyware downloads on your computer.
  4. Install anti-spyware software.
    • Read reviews on anti-spyware software. Descriptions and user reviews are posted on many consumer reviews sites. One of the things you will want to consider in your search for an anti-spyware software is the scanning speed, which is how quickly it can scan through your entire hard drive to detect spyware and viruses. You will want to compare accuracy, which is the software’s ability to filter out legitimate programs versus actual spyware sites or programs. You will also want to know how frequently the software updates their software when there are known new spyware and virus attacks and consider the technical support offered with your anti-spyware software.
    • Find freeware or shareware. There are a number of freeware and shareware sites that offer free anti-spyware. These will be more limited than commercial software programs, but can provide you with adequate protection from spyware. Make sure that the site that you downloading from is reputable.
    • Buy commercial software. Alternatively, you can buy commercial anti-spyware software. Most commercial anti-spyware software is bundled with anti-virus software programs.
    • Check for updates frequently. Even with anti-spyware software installed on your computer, you will want to check periodically for updates from the software manufacturer as new spyware and adware viruses are developed. These updates will protect you from the latest spyware programs.
  5. Keep your operating system up to date. Keeping your computer’s operating system up-to-date is important in preventing spyware or viruses from your computer. Operating system security patches are released often from the manufacturers that can fix holes in your system that hackers and spyware can break through. Make sure that your operating system is the latest version released from the manufacturer. Most operating systems will automatically check for updates periodically.
  6. Control which memory devices can connect to a workstation. Block USB Memory Sticks, eSATA Drives, USB 3.0, DVD or CD Write. Any Memory storage device.

How to Start the Apple Hardware Test

Start the Apple Hardware Test
If you think your Mac has a problem, you can use Apple's built-in Hardware Test to find out the problem. This article shows you how.

Steps:
  1. Insert your Installation Disk. This should be the one of the discs from your Mac accessories. If it isn't there, use the latest operating system disc, such as the Snow Leopard installation disk. In OS X Lion, the hardware test is usually stored on the Hard Drive. If it is not found, your Mac will attempt to download the test over the internet.

  2. Shut down and boot up/restart your Mac. Before you hear the chime, hold down D. After the chime, hold it for maybe 2-5 seconds. Then, release it.
  3. The screen should start showing weird things. This is normal.
  4. After a bit, Apple Hardware Test will display. Click start. The fans may start speeding up and slowing down. This is also normal
  5. If no random numbers and letters are displayed, there are no hardware faults, but if there are, there is at least one fault.
  6. If you have a fault, call Apple and tell them your fault code.

How to Repair a Macintosh Hard Drive

For safety, you should go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility, click your start-up disk in the sidebar and click Verify Disk to check it. But when it says something is wrong, you gotta repair it, or bad things will happen.
(Note: These steps relate to Snow Leopard.)

Steps:
  1. Every cautious person should always have a backup handy just in case. There is a chance this can erase some data or just wipe out your entire hard drive. So, keep a backup handy.

  2. We are not going to reinstall Mac OS X.
  3. Are you sure you need to repair the disk? You can check this by going into Disk Utility, clicking your disk in the sidebar, and clicking Verify Disk.
  4. Save your work in all open apps.

Standalone installers should also be used if you need the update at a later time, if you are downloading the update from a computer with a faster Internet connection and if the computer that needs the update has no Internet connection. Make sure you have the correct system requirements for the update before using a standalone installer.

How to Get Steam on a Macbook

Maybe you got a Macbook and wanted to play Steam, but couldn't find a way that was free. Or maybe you couldn't find a way at all! Well, there are several, but this method is free. And here it is.
The two drawbacks: You can't buy new games from the store, but you can buy them on a PC then they'll be on your Mac's steam game list ready for download. Also the in-game chat does not work, if someone messages you in a game, things screw up. Chat out of game works fine though.
Also, this works with a Macbook, not a Macbook Pro. You don't need a Pro to run Steam! All the source games are perfectly playable, even online.
Here are the specs used in this example:
MacBook of Late 2008 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 1 GB Ram Intel GMA X3100

Steps:
  1. Download CrossOver Games (Not CrossOver, CrossOver Games! It doesn't require an OS, as it's an emulator. It might still be available on Pirate Bay.)

  2. Install CrossOver Games.
  3. It already has an option to install steam! Click in the CrossOver Games Software Installer.
  4. Install Steam.
  5. Install your Steam games.
  6. Play.

How to Buy RAM for Mac Mini

To buy Random Access Memory (RAM) for your Mac Mini, you must first determine the maximum capacity of memory your Mac Mini can support and the type of RAM, or memory modules, that are compatible with the model of your Mac Mini. RAM for your Mac Mini can be purchased from multiple venues; such as retail stores that sell Apple products, major retail websites, or from online vendors who specialize in selling RAM and computer hardware. Continue reading this article to learn about the methods for buying the type of RAM supported by your Mac Mini.

Steps:

Mac Minis from Mid-2011

  1. Buy memory modules no larger in size than 8 gigabytes (GB). The maximum amount of memory you can install in a mid-2011 model Mac Mini is 8 GB.

    • Since there are 2 memory slots in the mid-2011 model of the Mac Mini, you can buy 2 separate memory modules, as long as the total memory does not exceed 8 GB.
  2. Verify that you buy memory modules with the proper specifications. In order for the RAM to work efficiently in your Mac Mini, it must have the following features: non-parity, unbuffered, 1333 megahertz (MHz), PC3-10600 DDR3, and 204-pin module.

Mac Minis from 2010 and 2009

  1. Buy memory modules with the proper amount of GB. The 2010 Mac Mini supports a total of 8 GB in memory, or RAM; whereas the 2009 Mac Mini models can only support a total of 4 GB in RAM.
    • Only 2 memory slots are built into these Mac Minis; therefore, you can purchase 2 separate memory modules that do not exceed the maximum capacity of supported GB for each model.
  2. Buy memory modules with the appropriate features. You must purchase RAM with specific features that are compatible with the 2010 and 2009 Mac Minis.
    • Buy memory modules with features that are unbuffered, non-parity, 1066 MHz, PC3-8500 DDR3, and have 204-pin modules.

Mac Minis from 2007 and 2006

  1. Purchase memory modules with no more than 2 GB of memory. You may install 1 memory module that is 2 GB in size, or 2 memory modules that contain 1 GB of memory on each module.
    • Purchase memory modules that meet the requirements for your Mac Mini. You can only install RAM with 200-pin modules, 667 MHz, compliant with PC2-5300 and DDR2, and are non-parity and unbuffered.

Buying the RAM

  1. Purchase RAM for your Mac Mini on the Internet. Shopping for RAM online may provide you with a variety of options in terms of pricing, return policies, or warranties.
    • Enter search criteria into any Internet search engine, such as "RAM Mac Mini" or "buy RAM for 2010 Mac Mini." The search results will provide you with numerous websites or retailers that sell RAM compatible with the Mac Mini.
    • Visit the websites of major retailers such as Walmart or Amazon. You may receive discounts on your entire purchase or discounts for shipping and handling from sites such as these.
    • You may buy RAM from auction websites such as eBay; however, you may want to review the feedback and ratings for each specific seller to avoid purchasing RAM that is falsely advertised, faulty, or incompatible with your Mac Mini.
  2. Buy RAM from a retail store in your local area. The benefit to buying RAM from a nearby retail store is that you can take it home and install the RAM immediately into your Mac Mini.
    • Visit retail stores that specialize in electronics, computers, or Apple products; such as Best Buy or Comp USA.

How to Install DOS

DOS is an early operating system from Microsoft that for the most part has now been replaced by Microsoft Windows. However, people still like to use DOS commands for activities like playing DOS games or using DOS programs like Robocopy. Since DOS is an older interface from Windows, the method to install DOS can also seem a little old-fashioned.

Steps:
  1. Purchase the DOS installation disks (they come in a set of 3 floppy disks). Usually you can purchase the set of floppy disks and an external floppy disk drive if needed for a very affordable price.

  2. Insert the first installation disk in the floppy disk drive and restart your computer. The first disk is a bootable disk so you should see an option to hit a key to boot from the disk (the exact key can vary depending on which computer you have).
  3. Hit the key to boot from the floppy drive. Your computer will abandon the usual boot process and instead you will see a blue screen with Microsoft DOS setup menu.
  4. Press the Enter key on your keyboard to continue with the setup process.
  5. Select "Configure first hard disk (recommended)" by hitting the Enter key again.
  6. Read the information on the Caution window. You may want to consider the following options before continuing to install DOS.
    • Press F3 if you want to back up your files. You will be exited from the DOS installation process.
    • Hit the Escape key if you want to return to the previous window to review your choices.
  7. Press the "Y" key on your keyboard if you want to continue installing DOS. The setup program will now continue to configure your hard drive and then restart your computer.
  8. Wait while your system configurations are checked. After configuration check has completed your hard drive will be formatted using the FAT16 file system.
  9. Confirm your date/time, country and keyboard layout in the next window. You can use your cursor keys to change the selections. If all settings are correct, you can highlight "The settings are correct" and press Enter.
  10. Install DOS in the default directory by leaving the directory location unchanged in the next window and just hitting Enter.
  11. Let your computer copy the files from the first installation disk. A status bar will appear so you can see the progress.
  12. Replace disk 1 with disk 2 when prompted and hit Enter to continue. You will see the status bar appear again.
  13. Take out disk 2 and insert disk 3 when the next prompt window appears and press Enter. This will allow files to be copied from the third installation disk until all files have been copied.
  14. Remove the final disk from your floppy drive when you see the message appear that says "Remove disks from all floppy disk drives." Press Enter after your floppy drive has been emptied.
  15. Press Enter to restart your computer when you get to the window titled "MS-DOS Setup Complete."

How to Find Hidden Cameras

Do your spidey senses tingle when you enter a room, or walk down the street, and you just know you're being watched? These days, you're probably right—spy cams are everywhere, and more are being added every day. You're probably wondering how to find those hidden cameras so that you can protect your well-being as well as your privacy. We'll show you how.

Steps:

Method One: Use Your Eyes

  1. Spot tell-tale signs. While the camera may be hidden, the lens can only be camouflaged.
    • Locate possible places that hidden cameras can be found in a personal residence or business. Start in logical places such as in the bedroom, in the living room, or especially near valuable items.
    • Common items to have video cameras hidden in them include books, smoke detectors, desk plants, house plants, tissue boxes, stuffed teddy bears and electrical outlets.
    • Check for cameras in less conspicuous items as well. These can include a gymbag, a purse, DVD cases, air filter equipment, eye glasses, lava lamps, buttons or a Phillips screwdriver.
    • Look for a little hole, no bigger than this "o," somewhere on the side facing the room.
    • Look for mirrors that seem to have no reason to be where they are. It may be next to impossible to spot the camera, but you can be alert to the possibility.
  2. Watch for and avoid hidden cameras in public places.
    • Search for areas that would offer the best field of vision. This is generally higher up on buildings or in open areas without obstructions.
    • Look for glass or plastic domes, particularly tinted ones. Public cameras are generally found behind protective shields. Chances are if it's facing the room, and is either mirrored or translucent, there's a camera behind it.

Method Two: Use Counter-Surveillance Techniques

  1. Purchase a wireless camera detector from the Internet or through a local electronic store.
    • Use your purchased camera detector to perform a sweep of the room you are searching.
  2. Use your cell phone. Place a call to and then wave the device around a suspected item. Your phone will make clicking and buzzing noises near a product that emits an electromagnetic field.
    • Not all phones will do this, but if you've noticed that your phone tweedles or buzzes near speakers, or when a call is about to come in, it will work.
    • Dismantle the device. If you suspect a case of voyeurism or invasion of privacy by a stalker or predator, notify the authorities at once.
    • Work with the authorities to locate the video feed box. It will appear as a plain metal box that has cables running into it.
    • If you're the invader, sorry—you're busted!

Tips:
  • Perform the same discrete visual checks and sweeps in hotels and in workplaces. In a workplace and in other business settings, realize that dummy cameras may be set up to intimidate you into good behavior.
  • Hardwired cameras are typically the kind used in businesses to prevent crime. These can connect with a recording device or with television monitors.
  • Wireless cameras operate with a wireless transmitter and tend to be bit larger because they contain the wireless transmitter. These can operate on a battery and be transmittable to a recording device within a range of about 200 feet (60.96 m). This type can be popular for people looking to spy on other individuals.
